MINDFUL COMMUNICATION IN TODAY’S DIVERSE WORKPLACE
CE POINTS:   (1.0 NJ CE/ .10 NCRA CEU)

Thursday, June 18, 2020
7:00pm-8:00pm ET

PRESENTER:  Alfred A. Betz, President of Al Betz & Associates, Inc., and Co-Founder and Member of Outfluence, LLC
SEMINAR DESCRIPTION:
Our culture and, consequentially, the workplace are becoming increasingly diverse.  This diversity is comprised not just of international cultures, but also of regional cultures within the United States.  In 2016 two surveys reported that between 40% and 60% of U.S. adults settle and obtain employment away from the areas in which they grew up.  Activities and a group project will demonstrate how diversity and experiential interpretation filter and block communication among individuals.  Interactive discussions will determine ways to overcome communication filters and barriers resulting from diversity in the workplace.
The concept of mindfulness is currently receiving a great deal of attention in both behavioral and management fields.  Non-verbal communication can “speak louder than words.”  The group will explore the roles of the other senses in communication and highlight the need for awareness and sensitivity to the ways we communicate silently.  Constant Messaging and the existence of Sensory Perimeters are particularly impactful concepts that emphasize the danger of unintended messages being delivered to unexpected receivers.  Illustrations and scenarios will reveal potential unintended outcomes and how to avoid them.
The presentation utilizes Power Point, participative demonstrations, worksheets, and collaborative activities.
