Bloomfield College Information

April 2020 -

CCRA-NJ shares the following message from Dr. Greg Reid, Director, Library and Court Reporting Programs, Bloomfield College.

The COVID-19 matter will pass, sometime, and normal instructional operations will resume at institutions such as Bloomfield College. Trust that by the start of fall semester such will happen.

First course in the court reporting program sequence - CR1000 Court Reporting Theory - begins on-site at Bloomfield College this fall semester (31 August thru 18 December). The class will meet Monday thru Thursday evenings 6:00pm-9:45pm.

We hope you remain interested in the program. There remains plenty of time to get things done in preparation to begin study in fall. The to-do list for reserving a spot in the class:

1. Apply for program admission. All are required components:

  • complete the main Bloomfield College non-degree program application template: https://bloomfield.edu/admission/apply-now/application-enrollment-non-degree-status
  • forward an official copy of your high school transcript (or a college transcript if you have college credits), forwarded to the Bloomfield College Admission Office. The physical address for admissions is One Park Place, Bloomfield, NJ 07003
  • complete either NCRA's A to Z or Project Steno's Basic Training (both are free and online, meeting online once per week for a bit more than a month) and forward to me a copy of the completion document you afterward will receive from the providing organization. It may be forwarded to me via email attachment, to this email address

After you are admitted to the program:

  • register for the course - to do so, contact Annette Raymond (registrar) at [email protected]
  • apply for federal financial aid (direct loans, in this program instance) if interested

Once you know you will be attending fall semester class:

  • by semester start date, you will need to acquire your own access to a steno machine with tripod. These can be purchased or leased, but please keep in mind Bloomfield College itself is not a vendor for such
  • you also will need an 8GB minimum thumb drive

Once you pay tuition, you will at no extra cost be subscribed to Realtime Coach, a high-quality commercial tool that will be of great assistance to you as you go through the program. The sooner I know how many students are going to be in the fall class, the sooner I can ensure all will have Realtime Coach access from the get-go.

Please feel free to ask me other questions you may have about the program itself and the logistics of entering it. For now let's stick to email for that, as I'm working from home as well.
